Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Drogheda 2019

Anglo Printers are delighted to once again support Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Drogheda, which is set bring a feast of Irish music, dance, song and language to the town for a second year from 11th-18th August 2019. The festival will be opened by Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D. Higgins on Sunday 11th August at 3.00pm. The countdown is on for a festival which celebrates our musical heritage, cultural heritage and the talented traditional Irish musicians taking part.

Anglo Printers MD Padraic Kierans is a founding member of the Fleadh Exec Committee in Drogheda since 2011 and has held the position of Deputy Project Director for the last two years of the Fleadh Cheoil in Drogheda, delivering a 45m injection to the local economy and 500,000 visitors to the region in 2018 alone.

The Fleadh is a massive tourist attraction with up to 500,000 visitors expected to visit Drogheda town to enjoy competitions, concerts, céilithe, outdoor gig rig, workshops, energetic performances and lively street music sessions. Up to 8,000 competitors will go head to head to become All Ireland Champions. Make sure to get a copy of the Clár/Fleadh Programme which outlines all the fantastic Fleadh concerts, performances and events from the Fleadh Cheoil office, Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda Tourist Office and Dundalk Tourist Office.

The scoil Éigse will see up to 900 musicians attend masterclasses and workshops throughout the week of the Fleadh, which will cater for all traditional instruments, rince, amhranaíocht and comhra. Family entertainment will include family workshops, street entertainment, family gig rig sessions and family concerts.

The Coca Cola Dome will be located in Dominic's Park and will host some of Ireland's top traditional acts and performers/bands including Frankie Gavin, Zoe Conway & John McIntyre with RTE Concert Orchestra, Damian Dempsey, Téada with Séamus Begley and many more. Martin Hayes, Donal O'Connor & Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh perform in Highlanes Gallery and Hot House Flowers take to the stage in the Barbican Centre. The headline concerts are sure to bring energetic, soulful and vibrant performances to their audiences. Fleadh TV returns to Drogheda from 15th to 18th August to bring us Ireland's biggest musical journey, with performances from top artists including Zoe Conway, Hot House Flowers, Cuig, Goitse, Cherish the Ladies and many more.

The Credit Union Gig Rig will be located in Bolton Square with a feast of free open-air entertainment with over 80 acts performing traditional music, Irish dancing and singing every day: from 2.30 to 5.00pm on Sunday 11th August; from 6pm to 9.30pm Monday 12th August & Tuesday 13th August; from 6pm to 10.00pm on Wednesday 14th August; from 2pm to 10.30pm Thursday 15th August; 2pm to 10.45pm Friday 16th August; 2pm to 10.45pm Saturday 17th August and 2pm to 11.30pm on Sunday 18th August.

Make sure to book for the Yapstone sponsored Muintearas lunchtime concerts which celebrate the talent of local traditional music families from Louth and surrounding counties. The trisco or trad disco promises a great night of dancing in the Electric Ballroom on Friday 16th August from 11.30pm with trad music blended with dance beats. The fleadh culminates with many talented and accomplished musicians taking part in the Senior Céilí band competition on Sunday 18th August at 6.30pm in the Coca-Cola Concert Dome. Visit the fabulous Highlanes Gallery and enjoy an exhibition — Oidhreacht: Transforming Tradition, which brings together a range of artworks and objects from the 18th century to the contemporary moment exploring Irish traditional Arts and Culture. Drogheda town has a lot to offer including a great variety of shops to welcoming pubs, fantastic restaurants and coffee shops.
